Abstract
The article presents a comparative state of the art analysis of quality management models in higher education, focusing on the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the Technical University of Manabí. The study is based on a diagnosis of academic and administrative management that revealed the absence of a quality management system, weaknesses in management practices, and limitations in continuous evaluation mechanisms. The proposal is grounded in international references such as ISO 9001:2015, the EFQM model, the Malcolm Baldrige framework, the TQM philosophy, and the PDCA cycle. The objective of this research is to comparatively analyze quality management models applicable to the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the Technical University of Manabí.
Methodologically, a state-of-the-art analysis approach was adopted. Primary sources were reviewed, including international standards (ISO 9001 and ISO 21001), as well as scientific articles and institutional reports. The study was conducted in three stages: (1) review and selection of updated quality standards, (2) systematization and categorization of administrative management, academic management, educational innovation, and organizational culture within the institution’s key dimensions, and (3) comparative analysis to identify gaps and strengths in each model. The results indicate that implementing a hybrid model would enhance institutional efficiency, strengthen organizational culture, increase student satisfaction, expand engagement with the public community, and ensure academic relevance.
