Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the condition of the pavement on Avenida Panamericana Sur, specifically in the section between Redondel Norte and Redondel Sur, in the canton of El Guabo, province of El Oro. For this analysis, the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) was used as the main tool, complemented with visual inspections and road diagnostic methods. Based on these approaches, the main faults present on the road were identified and classified according to their severity and extent, with the purpose of determining the degree of pavement deterioration and its impact on the safety and viability of the road.

The results obtained indicate that the condition of the pavement is variable, with some sectors in acceptable condition and others with a high level of deterioration. Among the main faults detected are longitudinal cracks, crocodile skin type cracks and potholes, which affect the quality of the road and put the safety of users at risk. Based on this diagnosis, maintenance and rehabilitation strategies are proposed, prioritizing interventions such as surface patching, crack sealing and milling in the most deteriorated areas. The implementation of these actions will contribute to improve the road infrastructure, optimize mobility and extend the useful life of the pavement in the study area.
