Abstract
The use of numerical simulations has made possible to develop methods for evaluating the operation of turbomachines, from the design stage. The objective of the research is to analyze the effect of geometrical parameters in the operation of single- suction stage radial centrifugal pumps, through the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and experimental designs. In this research was analyzed the variation of three geometrical parameters in the impeller: the blade number (z) and the blade curvature, defining by the inlet angle ( ) and the exit angle ( ). Geometrical combinations were simulated using computational fluid dynamics methods in order to an experimental matrix. The adjustment for the quadratic model was = 86,8; where , , and the square combination of resulted significant parameters. Polynomial functions were obtained that allow establishing the relationships of the efficiency indicators: height, power and efficiency with respect to the variations in geometry. The difference between analytics of original design and simulation result were 4.6 m.c.a.
