Abstract

The production of biodiesel in the world is an established practice which contributes to the reduction of the environmental impact generated by the use of fossil fuels and also reduces the energy dependence on them. The actual work has the scope of analyze the development of the researches related to the biodiesel production in Cuba, based on a review of the peer reviewed scientific literature. The results showed that the biodiesel production in Cuba is not implemented neither is a generalized subject yet. Most of researches and results are related to the use of Jatropha curcas as feedstock, but there are reports based on different edible, non-edible and waste feedstock. To reach biodiesel production levels according to installed capacity, among other factors, the supply chain associated to this technology must be assessed and attended and straight vegetable oil production is the most critical element of this chain.
