Abstract

In previous works were studying the distribution of localized stresses in mechanical components with geometrical discontinuities combined into a single section or sections near. However, the maximum value of these stresses depends on the relative position of geometric shapes, so the study of adequate distribution of them favors the design optimization. The opportunity to have software tools has revealed the importance of mechanical design for minimization of localized stresses in machine parts with complex shapes combined. In the present work shows an application of this concept. The object of study is a flat piece, with change in width and core drilling, subjected to constant axial load. It works on different relative positions of the central hole, for the section where the plate widths changes, and determine the best position in the same localized minimum tensile stress. We compare the values of factor of theoretical stress concentration obtained those suggested by the literature. The work suggests the need to analyze alternatives and the possibility to check that the combination of geometric discontinuities, in the same section, not only generates higher stresses it is alleged, at times, a proper design to minimize localized stresses
