Abstract

The following work presents a description of the calculation of the available wind potential in the city of Cú-cuta, Norte de Santander’s department, located to the northeast of Colombia; analyzing the average wind speed ideal for the wind turbine according to the records of the last years. A hybrid rotor model is selected, in which Savonius turbine designs are combined to improve drag, with a Giromill type model to increase lift. From this configuration, design parameters such as geometry, blade distribution, and clamping and trans-mission elements are calculated. Annex to this, a portable prototype is built to evaluate functionality and performance, in order to promote distributed generation of energy with renewable sources and to reduce losses in the transportation of electricity.
