One of the major problems in the production of castings is the occurrence of defects such as shrinkage porosity, also known as voids. The aim of this work is to obtain the regression equation to determine the behavior of shrinkage cavities based on the geometric parameters of the riser using simulation as a prediction method. To perform this work, a methodology proposed by the authors is followed using statistical and simulation tools. As a result of the application of the method was determined: the weights for the independent variables (height and diameter) in the process of occurrence of defects, the graph showing the optimum values of these parameters and the governing equation for the piece studied and number of defects that can occur. The principal conclusion was derivate because the optimum values of the risers geometry obtained do not match, with those calculated by applying known methods.Downloads
