Abstract

This paper presents an application of Finite Element Method (FEM) for the simulation of contact onloaded teeth of spur gears. Models of FEM to analyzing gear resistance considering rim stresses areused. The behavior of gear crack path on gears with different rim thickness according to FEM modelsdeveloped in this study was compared with the theoretical and practical values reported by Lewicki. The numerical simulations by FEM models fit quite well the experimental results for evaluation of theeffect of rim thickness on gear crack path.
